Tips to Lower Your Auto Insurance
Insurance policies are expensive and even more so in major metropolitan areas. It would not make sense to move just to lower your insurance rates. But, if you decide to move to a rural area, to be sure your rates will be significantly lower. Insurance is based on a complex formula of risk. There is less risk of your car being stolen or being crashed into in a rural area. Hence the lower insurance rates.
When deciding upon a car, remember that a new or newer car would need collision. It is not mandatory, unless it is being financed, but it would be beneficial to be covered for damages from a crash. The premium would not be worth it if the car was older than four years of age. In addition you will probably take a deductible (that is the amount you will pay out-of-pocket, of around $500), otherwise full collision coverage is prohibitively expensive.
It would be a good idea to take minimum coverage, if you are a safe driver. This would include personal and property damage. It is relatively inexpensive to take road service, in case you are caught in the middle of nowhere. You can forgo this coverage if you belong to the AAA (American Automobile Association).
Do not forget to tell the agent or the online registration automated quote section, that you are a homeowner, if you are, and that you are married. This will cut your premium. Take a defensive driver course every three years to shave off a percentage of your premium. A motorcycle safety course also counts as a defensive driver course.
Back to your car of choice. If you purchase what is called a “muscle car” or high-performance type of car you will pay more. People who purchase these cars tend to be more reckless. Certain classes of luxury cars will also cost more to insure. These cars are prime targets of theft. Speaking of theft and fire damage, this goes under your comprehensive section of the insurance policy. It is best here too to take a $500 deductible.
Assuming your car is an economical car, this would be a lower rate than for example a Hummer. Your drive to work is short and you do not use the car all that much, if this is the case you will also pay a lower premium. Speeding tickets will raise your rates considerably. I will not even mention drinking and driving as it relates to rates and what can result from such reckless behavior. The younger you are and the less driving experience you have will put you in the “assigned risk” category, again considerably hiking your insurance rates.
Through experience Progressive Auto Insurance is quite competitive. They answer the phone in a timely fashion with personable employees eager to answer your questions and address your concerns. Their website is user friendly and they insure a wide class of vehicles.
Keep all the aforementioned tips in mind to lower your car insurance when engaging an insurance company. Do not try to save a few dollars with a company having a bad reputation or you are not comfortable doing business with.
Insurance companies take many things into consideration when providing quotes for premiums to be set for a specific potential customer.
One of the things they look at is the type of automobile you drive. A few cars that fit into this category would be the Hyundai Sante Fe, Ford Taurus, Smart fortwo, Kia Sedona and Chrysler Town & Country. There are a few things that these cars have in common.
One of those contributing factors is the horsepower. The cars mention about have less horsepower than say, a full size pickup, think Dodge RAM or GMC Sierra, or a sports car, much like the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger.
The other major factor is safety. Although most cars these days have airbags all the way around, someone driving a Smart fortwo is not going to take as many risks as someone in a Camaro.
Another key factor is how often the car is stolen. It’s pretty safe to say that the ratio of stolen Kia Sedonas are relatively low.
Insurance companies will also look at your location. Do you live in a crowded city or do you live more in a rural area. They will factor in the probability of an accident by looking at the city in which you live. For example, a city such as Houston with a population of four million people, at the 2000 census, and hazards everywhere such as traffic congestion and construction is going to incur a higher premium, than say, Des Moines, Iowa.
Saving money on the best car insurance is not impossible. In fact, it is a good possibility that you will be saving quite a bit. Once you read this you will already be on your way to cheaper car insurance.
Before you begin your search get advice from others you know. This is a great resource to start with. Others have first hand knowledge of the companies you should consider, and those you should stay far away from. You should also get a copy of your driving record from your state. This will tell you what driving offenses the insurance companies will see. Do not lie about any previous offense, as this is enough reason to deny you coverage. Some offenses can cost you greatly, but if you give them time they will eventually fall off your record. In the meantime, be a cautious and responsible driver. This is the best way to get the best car insurance deals.
Do not worry, you have many options to help you save money on the best car insurance. Most insurance companies give discounts if you have multiple policies through them. So, think about combining your home, renters, life insurance, or any others vehicle policies you have. Safety features on your car, like an alarm, can also lower your payments. Some insurance companies will give student drivers steep discounts for good grades or taking a safe driving class.
Other ways to lower your payments are within your policy. Such as, raising your deductible. Having a thousand dollar deductible instead of five hundred dollars will save you quite a bit on your premium.
Reducing your full coverage to liability coverage is another great way to save money. Before you do either of these make sure that you can cover the higher deductible or total cost to fix your car. You may be better off paying the higher premium than going without a car because you cannot afford to fix it.
Saving money on the best car insurance is not a myth. You can achieve this goal and get the policy that covers all of your needs.

1.) Shopping around is the biggest factor in finding affordable car insurance in your area. Most car insurance companies have websites that allow you to generate free quotes in a matter of minutes. By taking advantage of this you are assured that you are purchasing the insurance that is the cheapest for your personal needs.
2.) Talk to local insurance dealers face to face. The internet is a very impersonal place and getting someone to cut you a deal is impossible if you’re simply filling out a form on a website. These insurance salesmen also sometimes possess the ability to lower rates for you. While they won’t be able to take off a significant amount, the savings will quickly add up over time.

Auto insurance these days have got even more complicated. With all the discounts and different types of insurance, how do you save the most on your insurance purchase? People have less and less time to search out the best deals and savings on auto insurance so we have some tips to help you. These tips will help you save the most on your auto insurance and put more money back into your pocket than ever before.
The number one way to save money on your auto insurance premiums is take advantage of the numerous discounts that insurance companies offer you. Today we will look at three of my personal favorites that will help you save money. The first one is the low mileage discount. By driving your vehicle less than an average driver, you can be entitled to a discount on your premiums. Many people overlook this discount, but if you can use it do so. It can save you some money on your premiums.
Another great discount that many people tend to overlook is a security discount. More and more vehicles are being stolen these days. Insurance companies will gladly give discounts to drivers who are proactive when it comes to security for their vehicle. Having things such as a security alarm, anti-theft device or an electronic disabler can get you a discount. The added expensive of adding these can save you money down the road on your premiums.
You may also want to consider a low profile car over that sports car you had your eye on. Thieves love sports cars and they tend to cost more to have repaired. By getting a lower end model, you could get a better rate on your car insurance premiums saving you money on your monthly bill.
Discounts on auto insurance vary widely between carriers. You will need to talk to your insurance agent to see what is available to you. Most people are pleasantly surprised by all the discounts that they qualify for. The longer you wait to talk to your agent the more your insurance could be costing you. Grab all the discounts above we have mentioned and see what else you may qualify for to save you money.
One of the best ways to get the most for your money as far as auto insurance is to shop around. The best thing you can do for yourself is to get quotes from the agencies you are highly considering. For the sake of this article, I chose GEICO (whom I am presently insured with), Progressive, AARP, and Esurance.
It’s always best to go on their website and look for a link to creating a free quote with them. As GEICO is the one I am most familiar with, I started with that company first. Now, I personally own at 1992 Toyota Paseo so your quote may change depending on the age of your car, how old you personally are, and many other factors including how many cars you plan to put on your insurance.
GEICO offered me $498.50 per six months for a single car registered with a single driver. This included $15,000/$30,000 for bodily injury liability and $5,000 for property damage liability. This seemed pretty pricey at $87.09 a month.
Progressive was the next company I checked into a quote for. Using the same exact car and my own personal information once again, Progressive offered me a much cheaper quote. For $346.90 every six months, I would receive the exact same coverage GEICO was charging me nearly $500 for.
AARP is next on my list, but their website was confusing and difficult to understand. Using the exact same car and my same personal information, they were unable to offer me a quote.
Although disappointed with AARP, I moved on to the final insurance company in my search: Esurance. Using the exact same information I have used on every “free quote” form, Esurance gave me a quote of $353 for every six months with only $58.81 due every month.
It’s best to print out these quotes or save them then speak to agents from these insurance companies. Armed with these different quotes, you can possibly get a better deal from GEICO or other expensive agencies. I would personally suggest Progressive if single and adding only one car for insurance.
There are many things you can do to save yourself some money on car insurance. First you should only insure as much as you can afford. One might ask, “How should I do this?” This is how.
Do not pay your insurance monthly. Most insurance companies charge $5 to $10 extra each month when you pay on the monthly basis. If you can pay annually or bi-annually it would be beneficial to you and save you about a hundred dollars in a year’s time.
Look into taking a course in safe driving techniques. Many insurance companies have plans that offer discounts if you complete a course such as this.
Try to have all of your insurance policies at the same place. I have heard that the more policies you have at a particular place the more you are eligible to be discounted.
If your vehicle doesn’t have many miles on it, you may qualify for a few low mileage breaks your insurance company may offer. It is more than worth the trouble to look into.
Consider passing on all of the car accessories that your insurance company does not cover. Many insurance companies do not cover aftermarket products such as custom wheels, subwoofers and spoilers. In the event that your car is stolen, you would lose that $3000 that you spent hooking your car up.
Do your research. Many people think that insurance for SUV’s is expensive and for smaller vehicles would be cheaper but that is not necessarily the truth. Insurance companies undoubtedly look at a big truck and assume it would cause a fair amount of damage so they increase liability. On the other hand, they also rate automobiles on the likelihood that they will be damaged in a collision, how likely they are to be stolen and how likely its passengers will be injured.
You should also self-insure what you can on your vehicle. This means take good care of your vehicle to reduce your chances of your car breaking down on you or having to spend $100 on getting it towed somewhere. These tips will help you save money in the short and long term.
Most people dread the process of shopping for car insurance. Unfortunately, it is one of those things you have to do. Most states require that you carry at least minimum levels of insurance for the cars that you own and you need to make sure that you comply with these requirements.
You have many options in looking for the best car insurance company to purchase your policy from. You can call local insurance agents and they will be happy to provide you with quotations. This can be a time consuming task though. These days, most people prefer to do their shopping on the Internet. A simple web search will yield dozens of results. All you do is fill out a form or two and you’ll have a comprehensive listing of insurance carriers in no time.
Armed with your list of options you now want to do a little investigating to learn more about the reputation and financial stability of the companies you are considering. Of course, you want to find the best price but saving money won’t do you any good if your company doesn’t stand by its claims. There is a lot of information available in the public domain and using the Internet you should be able to find specific reviews by people who have used these companies.
There are other ways to make sure that the company you choose is a good match for you. The best way is to talk with people you know to see what companies they use and find out about their personal experience. You can also contact your local Better Business Bureau and State insurance boards to see if formal complaints have been filed against any of the companies you are considering. States also maintain rating systems that can help you narrow down your list of options.
With a little homework you can find a quality car insurance company and get a good policy at a great price. It is an important decision so take your time. Once you’ve made your informed decision you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that you are protected on the road and you have a strong company standing behind you.
